Definition

Teacher-directed activities are approaches to instruction where the teacher takes the lead in defining learning goals and methods and includes individual and small group formal skill instruction and large group instructional activities, including story reading and discussion time.

Child-initiated activities are ones that provide opportunities for free choice and informal learning, and include field trips and learning centers.
